  • Mom: Jane Austen is British?
  • Me: Yeah.
  • Mom: Then why are there shows about her on PBS?
  • Me: What does being British have to do with PBS?
  • Mom: I don't know.
  • Me: PBS actually plays lots of stuff that's British. Sherlock, Downton Abbey...and they used to play Anne of Green Gables all the time and that's Canadian. Which is kind of British...well, part of the commonwealth anyway. Certainly not American.
