I wanted to give a snapshot. I think what a lot of people felt about the tone of the epilogue was, ‘So this is it, so it’s over, so he’s not a hero anymore, he’s a sort of middle-aged man… It felt like a let-down.’ But I have said this before: for me, absolute heroism is rebuilding after that kind of trauma. And I could think of nothing more noble than that he’s acting what Dumbledore preached but didn’t live. So you see, Dumbledore preached, ‘these are the values that see us through, that survive, love and those sort of human bonds,’ and Harry’s actually living it.
