SOPA Protest Appreciation
Take a moment to appreciate SOPA and what is happening today with the strike. This is history. This is the people telling their government they won’t stand for censorship and the internet reminding the government that they don’t own the Web. The fact that these invaluable platforms can be taken away is exactly why this bills must be stopped for good. Piracy is just one small. Think of the convicting activities deemed to be illegal WITHOUT due process, not to mention the worldwide prescedent and possible ramifications this bill would create as is. Doesn’t that scare you? It should.
The internet is no longer a privilege, it is a RIGHT. And if the internet can raise awareness in such a gigantic way AND use their platforms to end this assault on our rights…well, it’s just a nice reminder that as a nation, we aren’t helpless against the will of our elected officials. We can stop our representatives from passing harmful legislation and we can tell them to create the changes we want. I think people forget this.
Sometimes, I hate this country, but not today. Today people all over the United States, not to mention the world, are seeing the power of the people in action. THAT. IS. AMAZING. At least I think so.
